Netflix reportedly postponed popular Prime Day to fall due to the current COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic as it attempts to recover in a context of high demand caused by the pandemic.
The Wall Street Journal said the change in date would allow the online retail giant to ship a wider variety of products without its current shipping delays. Amazon Prime Day will now take place in September.
Amazon announced earlier this month that it will slowly begin to revert to a two-day shipping time. Previously, the company had limited new shipments of certain third-party products that were not considered essential items. The move was designed to help the company prioritize the shipment of household and medical supplies. In addition, Amazon has also come under scrutiny for the way it treated its employees during the pandemic, with work stoppages and widespread complaints from warehouse workers reporting that the company does has not done enough to protect them from the spread of the virus. In addition, in France, Amazon even had to close its warehouses.
When it released its first quarter results last month, Amazon said it planned to spend at least $ 4 billion on COVID-19-related spending alone. The company reported operating profit of $ 4 billion for the quarter and net sales of $ 75.5 billion.
Prime Day is usually in mid-July over a period of one or two days, so the transition to September should allow Amazon to catch up to its cruising speed, and its processes before the coronavirus.
A major event for Amazon
For those who ignore it, Amazon Prime Day offers many simultaneous discounts on a variety of products, including discounted prices for popular Amazon products like the Amazon Echo and the Amazon Fire Stick. Amazon Prime Day has been held every year since its inception in 2015, and each year the online shopping period breaks sales records. Last year, Amazon Prime Day sales surpassed previous combined Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. The 2019 event raised approximately $ 7 billion.
An Amazon spokesperson declined to comment on the new date for Amazon Prime Day.
